Privacy Policy
Last updated September 5, 2026
Modern Money Guru (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to www.modernmoneyguru.com.
What we collect
We keep data collection deliberately minimal.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how people find the site. This is aggregated, not personal. Google may record your approximate location, device and browser type, referrer, and pages visited. It does not record your name or email.
- The quiz. The 3-question money literacy quiz runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us or stored anywhere.
- Contact and comments. We don’t run a contact form, comments, or a newsletter at the moment, so there is nothing to collect there yet.
We do not sell your data. We do not buy advertising lists. We do not share data with anyone who would use it to market credit, loans, or financial products to you.
How consent works
Cookies are only used for analytics. When you first visit, a short banner asks if you consent to analytics cookies:
- Accept all — analytics cookies are enabled.
- Essential only — analytics and advertising tracking stay off, and you still get the full site.
Your choice is stored on your own device and can be changed any time by clearing your browser cookies for this site.
California residents
Modern Money Guru is run from California, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, or CPRA) applies to its visitors. Your rights under it:
- Know — information about what we collect is in this policy. We only collect the aggregated analytics described above.
- Delete — email us to request deletion of any analytics record tied to your device.
- Correct — email us to request corrections to any personal information.
- Opt out of sale or sharing — we never sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there’s nothing to opt out of. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
- Limit sensitive data use — we don’t collect or process sensitive personal information.
EU, UK, and other visitors
If you’re in the EU, EEA, or UK, the same consent banner sets the ground rules: analytics cookies are only set after you accept them, which is how we meet GDPR requirements. Visitors elsewhere are covered by the banner too — privacy doesn’t have borders.
How we use data
We use analytics to:
- See which topics readers find useful, so we can write more of that.
- Understand traffic sources and fix pages that aren’t working.
That’s it.
Cookies
- Analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics
_ga,_gid) — collect aggregated usage statistics and are only set after you accept. - Essential cookies — the consent banner itself uses your browser’s local storage to remember your choice. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used.
How long we keep data
Google Analytics retains standard reports for 14 months. You can reset or delete this data any time from your Google Ads / Analytics settings, and you can ask us to remove any analytics record tied to your device.
Your rights
You may have the right to:
- Opt out of analytics tracking (clear cookies or choose “Essential only” on the banner).
- Request access to, correction, or deletion of your data.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
California residents: see the section above for your specific CCPA/CPRA rights. To exercise any of these rights, email the address below with your request.
Third-party links
Articles may link to other websites, including affiliate partners. Those sites have their own privacy policies — we’re not responsible for them, and link-clicking happens at your discretion.
Changes
If we add features that change how data is handled (for example, a newsletter, comments, or a paid product), we’ll update this policy and change the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be announced prominently.
